Underlying the performance I do in my creative work is my involvement in Javanese gamelan music, or karawitan. I have had the privilege of studying with several master musicians, including Blacius Subono, Hardja Susilo, Rusdiyantoro, Wakidi Dwidjomartono, Sukamso, Darsono "Vokal," Supardi, Paimin, Widiyanto, I.M. Harjito, Sumarsam, and Darsono Hadiraharjo. When I lived in Vancouver I played as a member of Gamelan Madu Sari. While in residence at Wesleyan University, I played with many groups in the northeast. Since moving to Ithaca, NY, where I direct the Cornell Gamelan Ensemble, I have continued to play regularly with Gamelan Kusuma Laras in New York City.
